Eleanor Ashby
Eleanor Ashby is a London-based mixed media artist originally from the Southwest of England. She explores the combination of materials such as oil pastels, acrylics, inks, and charcoal to create new textures and striking contrasts within her work. Currently studying at the University of the Arts London, Eleanor’s artistic style is heavily influenced by pop culture, mythology, and art movements including expressionism and street art.
One of her most distinctive characteristics is her use of bold, vibrant colour palettes and heavy-handed mark-making, which she employs to create movement, emotion, and character-driven imagery. Her ADHD-fuelled doodles and drawings confront themes of social injustice and self-expression. To Eleanor, the world feels too dull, compelling her to fill it with colour and vibrancy—often infused with a subtle dystopian edge.
Eleanor also experiments with unconventional and abstract surfaces, producing work on circular canvases, cardboard panels, and temporary formats. Notably, her charcoal silhouettes were drawn directly onto the gallery floor and completely erased by the end of an exhibition at Peckham Levels. Constantly pushing the boundaries of mark-making and material exploration, Eleanor uses her practice to express her perspective on the world and its current events.
