Yonatan Rezene

My name is Yonatan Rezene Abrha. I was born in 1998 and grew up in Asmara, Eritrea. My practice started in childhood when I was 4 years old. I studied fine art in the Satreb Art Institute for almost 2 years when I was 13 years old, and I received an advanced diploma. After that, I worked with a local gallery in Eritrea. In 2018, I had the opportunity to leave my country for Ethiopia, and I stayed for 6 years in Addis Ababa. Then I came to Uganda 2 years ago.

STATEMENT: My paintings explore daydreams as spaces of survival, memory, and transformation. Through symbolic figures, soft atmospheres, and layered colors, I translate inner visions into visual experiences.
